8 Tips for Maintaining Construction Site Security

Security is an important part of every construction site. It is accessible to trespassers who could be thieves or squatters if proper security checks are not in place. This is why several construction agencies spend a lot of money to secure construction project sites along with their workers’ safety. Here are 8 tips to keeping a site secure and to prevent its access from criminals:

1. Install Lights

Keep the construction area lit by installing lights. This will keep all the unwanted people, including criminals, away from the site. Keeping the lights turned on also indicates the presence of workers on the site. This is an inexpensive way of securing your place.

2. Install Security Equipment

Install security equipment such as cameras and alarms to ward off unwanted presence from your site. CCTV cameras can track a place 24/7 to expose anyone who tries to trespass it without reason. Besides security cameras, you can also install security alarms. Not only would an alarm send chilling waves towards the criminal, but it would also alert everyone nearby.

You have the option to install either aloud or a silent alarm. The silent alarm doesn't alert the intruders and helps to call the police without disturbing them. This helps to catch criminals red-handed.

3. Hire a Security guard

Level up your site’s security further by hiring a security guard. You can either invest in a virtual or a physical guard. But virtual guard has the benefit of catching a criminal as all he/she needs to do is to glance at the security camera’s footage. Anyone involved in a suspicious activity is visible on the camera.

4. Store Valuables in Shipping Containers

Many site owners have their valuable goods stolen on construction sites. But you don't need to worry. There are ways through which you can prevent all types of theft. Try storing all your valuables inside a shipping container. A container is a safe place for valuables due to its durability.

5. Build a Fence

Installing a fence or barbed wire around your site is one of the oldest, most straightforward, and yet the most practical of all the site security solutions. It’s up to you to install an electric or a standard fence. Electric fence is lethal to intruder’s life due to its ability to send electric shock. It also triggers the alarm in case some trespasser cuts a wire etc.

A standard fence is also not a bad security option. It takes time to get around a wall. During this time, the security alarm can go off alerting everyone to catch the intruders.

6. Ask questions
Many people are present on a site, and you may not know everyone. A person could be a delivery driver, an employee of CEO, architect, or a close friend of the client. Investigate all those who look suspicious to root out any danger. Escort everyone off-site in case of unauthorized access the site

7. Lock the Gate

Lock all the access points to the site, such as access gates after the regular working hours. That's because an unlocked gate is like no gate at all.

8. Be Extra precautions
Don’t forget to be extra careful if the site lies near a school or populated area. You also need extra precautions in case it lies within an occupied building of a school, hospital, etc.

These 10 site security tips will ensure an added security for your workers and valuables present on site.
